At Cascade Middle School, the school counselors meet with students for a variety of reasons, including help with adjustment to school, transitions to high school, organizational skills, friendships, mental health, academics and more. Don’t worry - if something is wrong, the counselor will contact you.
Students or parents may contact the student’s grade level counselor if you would like to request a schedule change. Changes may be available depending on the situation. Schedules are not able to be changed for a different elective class if the class already started (unless it is the first week of the trimester), to have a class with friends, or teacher preference. Thank you for understanding!
We will refer you to interventions that are available at Cascade. We offer Cougar Support every morning from 8:15-9:15 AM. Many teachers offer extra support as well, please reach out to them directly. If your child is in a specialized program (IE: IEP, ELL, student in transition) often there are extra support services in place we can access. We will refer you to the appropriate person to ask.
First, schedule an appointment to work with the teacher directly. The grade level counselor will be happy to facilitate or participate in this meeting so we can approach any interventions with consistency.
Conflicts are common in middle school. Typically, these issues are minor and easily resolved between the students or with help from counselors. However, if you think your student has experienced harassment, intimidation, or bullying (HIB), please report it immediately so our dean or administrator can take appropriate action. See the HIB Reporting Policy for more details. You can print a copy of the form from that page or request one from the school office.
Mental health counseling is a wonderful option for students requiring more support than what school counselors can offer.
School counselors primarily focus on students' academic, social, and emotional development within the school setting, while mental health therapists provide in-depth, individualized therapy for a wider range of mental health concerns.
School counselors and mental health therapists can collaborate to support your student if a release of information is filled out. Please let your child's counselor know if you would like to do that.
We have many resources, please send an email to your child's grade level counselor that includes the type of health insurance they have and we will get you taken care of!
